Joe DiMaggio was born on February 5, 1914, in the Henry Hudson housing of New York City to parents who had immigrated from Italy. In 1951 Joe married Marilyn Monroe, but the couple's relationship ended badly in 1954 after she accused him of cheating on her on their honeymoon trip to Europe. DiMaggio retired from professional baseball in 1955 and became a successful businessman after acquiring a stake in a hotel chain.
He died in 1999 at the age of 84.
